A Review of 2008

Posted on 31st December 2008, 9:53am

Wow. Its the last day of 2008. Time really flies. Looking back at this year of 2008, I feel there are things I am happy about, and there are also things I felt could have be done better.

The sense of achievement comes when I think about my relationships, and in my web marketing business.

First, relationships with PX. I feel good, because the challenges PX and I faced over the past 12 months has really given both of us confidence that we have found the right soul mate for our lives. Nobody is ever perfect, and through these months, I’ve found that what is more important is that we recognize and accept each others’ imperfection. There is beauty in imperfection too, you know?

And for my friends out there who are looking the the “right one”. Don’t wait for the the “right one”. Go for it, follow your heart. Its not about making the right choice, its about making the choice right. :)

Thank you for your love, Pei Xuan my dear. 2009 is a big year for us dear – and I’m so excited about it, and I know you are too. I love you.

I am also happy when I think about my parents. While I am yet to be able to help to support them financially, I feel this year has made a difference. At the very least, I took effort to go home for dinner together regularly. I know that is easy for most people. But for the nerdy workaholic me, its another story.

Thank you for your love and support, Papa and Mama. I love you so much!

While my brother has been in China for most part of this year, I’ve to admit, I really do miss him very dearly. I love the days when you are back in Singapore spending time together, like the days when you were back to watch the F1 race together. It was a lot of fun. While we are not as close to each other as many other brothers are, you have been my role model and inspiration in life.

Thank you Kor Kor for your love. I love you Kor.

Business wise, the N21 story is slowing down, as I have started to experience how ineffective I am in. The N21 opportunity is excellent and I personally do feel in my gut that it is something everyone should do – but I also feel that one needs to be prepared to put in a lot of effort in it and expect the business to pay back only in 2 – 5 years if you don’t come from a background where you are uncomfortable with sales. It is a process of transformation.

I am choosing not to work on the opportunity now, because I have an urgent need for the money in 2009. This is still something I definitely will work work on in my life – but I really need to get my finances (from my web business) stable first.

Thank you for your mentorship and guidance, uplines. It has been a brilliant journey. The training is nothing less than awesome.

I’m very happy about my web business. Sales has been astounding. At least, the active income side of it! Ever since I made the decision to “take in projects” in November 2008, I’ve secured projects more than 6 months of my pay at my current job. While I am yet to complete most of these projects, this really goes to show how things can change when you put heart into it.

2009 is an exciting year for TechBiz Central, now that I’ve solidified my foundations in web marketing. 2009 is about balance, and moving some projects over to the “passive income” side. The Internet is awesome, and it would have been my worst regret if I had not decided to leverage on it.

Its been a disappointment however, when it comes to health. I’ve not been paying much attention to it in 2008. I’ve to admit, its really tough to tell yourself to spend an hour in the swimming pool or jogging round the estate when you have projects filled up to your nose, business goals to meet, or when you have barely slept 4 hours.

That should not be an excuse though. I’ve taken steps to balance that, transiting back into self employment in mid Jan 2009, so I have more control over my time.

I hate to say this, but if you are working a 9 – 6 job, chances are that your life is severely unbalanced. A job doesn’t provide financial security in any sense. Working 9 hours a day, and an average sleeping 6 hours a day means you have 11 hours left for you to travel, eat, groom, manage your financial security, health, and relationships… and not many people in Singapore leave work on the dot, do they?

Maybe I have a skewed perception about having a job. Sorry. That’s my reality and I like it this way. :)

So 2008 has been a good year. Not everything has been smooth flowing, but hey, I’m alive now on 31st December 2008. Being alive is an achievement!

I really look forward to the year ahead in 2009. Things are looking really awesome. Yesterday evening, I sat down with my buddy Jones for a couple of hours, writing down some goals we are committed to achieve in 2009. Some of these goals are big goals. Some are small changes to make in daily routines.

We are going to email this to each other by 2359hrs tonight, attached with a weekly action plan. We will be checking with each other weekly, and I’m excited about this “peer checking” system. It’s good to have someone to help you keep accountable to your goals. Thank you bro.

Let’s make 2009 the best year it can be.
