Punggol Regalia
Posted on 5th March 2009, 11:43pmI just received a letter from HDB yesterday that PX and I are in the first queue for our ballot for the Punggol Regalia BTO project.
I started with very happy feelings – I mean, to know that we finally have a real chance at getting a place to settle down.
However, upon further thought, I realized what this means.
Debt.
Lots and lots of it.
Its inevitable, and everyone in Singapore goes through this. But I just don’t like the feeling of living in a home that is not really yours. Its irks me. I feel insecure.
The Punggol Regalia flats are awesome. Its less than 5 mins walk from the Punggol MRT station (and unlike Boon Lay, they cannot extend it further, unless we decided to have a train service in Pulau Ubin), and the proposed Punggol 21+ really looks great.
BUT. The flats are not cheap. PX and I got a 5 room flat. Its just a wiser choice to take, whether we want to use the flat for ourselves, or if we want to relocate after 5 years.
I just met PX earlier to work out some figures… it IS very scary what new couples have to go through.
Looks like I’ve now REALLY a great reason for me to stay up later to finish my work at night, to go out and sell more projects, to work harder in business, learn to leverage on other people and the Internet.
I must succeed.

Thanks Shirley for your comment. Yes I consider myself lucky to get a flat – and there are thousands of others who weren’t so lucky.
This is my 4th time balloting. Keep trying!

I have got a very good queue no (less than 5)and at first I was very excited as I have a very good chance of selecting my desired choice.
But as the day is approaching – 26th Mar.. I have 2nd thoughts about it. Although the price is on the high side, but what kills the excitment is the Flooring that it comes with.
I went down to HDB hub to view the model as well as the tiles, and realise that the floor tiles of the living room is 1-tone light grey ceremics, bedrooms is wood – quite coarse looking and not laminated. Kitchen & bathrooms are plain white tiles – no flowery pattern at all.
Thus I find that its not worth the $ to pay for these finishes, and still be restricted by the non-hacking rules.
So although I feel quite frustrated to give up my single-digit queue no, but I guess its better than I were to regret having to pay such high price for an average house.

Whoa! Less than 5! If I were you, I’d take a unit!
But then again, you have your reasons. If you think that letting go of this opportunity may give you another chance at a better flat, why not?
For me, getting this flat is like the bottleneck for all our plans to settle down together. We have been balloting for over a year!

Hahaha.. you bet, I guess most people are not so ‘fussy’ like me
But have you seen the ‘finishes’ display at the HDB hub? Are they acceptable to you both?
Perhaps the queue no. came too easy for us, as this is my first try …. so kinda unprepared for it.

Nope, have not went down to see the finishing – but I’ve been to some new flats (friend’s) and the finishing seems to be pretty okay.
Yeah, you can guess I am not too particular about having a perfect finish. Comfortable to stay is good enough

That was what our PM said mah – the regeneration of Dawson Estate?
Dunno where I read from, but I remember I read that will probably be open for bidding this Q3 2009. But well, that was before the economic crisis. Don’t know whether the schedule will be changed or not.
I’ve just started to look at the units, and shortlisting the ones that we think we want.

u r damn lucky. This is my duno how many times to take the q number and is always 4 digits.. my goodness.. im not young anymore over 30s and yet government still dun take into consideration to pity me to take the number. Till now.., i dun even have the chance to go on q.
U r consider lucky liao.. why dun u tried buying 4D. Hahahahhaha as im not that as lucky as you.

I think you should grab it and wait till 5 years than sell it. Flat price in Singapore is forever increasing …..u r very lucky though!

Yes, despite all the doubts and challenges, my fiancee and myself will be taking up the flat! I believe it will be worthwhile. Like what you said, the flat prices in Singapore are forever increasing!

Hey… i am going down for selection this coming Thursday. Have you selected your home? Whats the process like? Any issue while applying? I saw on teletext, how come everyone is focusing on one particular flat, that’s kind of strange. Could it be because of the sun direction? Anyway, i haven’t been to the show room before, just want to buy it for the location. Heard that downtown line is coming up next and punggol happen to be the next inter change, hopefully its a good investment…cheers

Frankly speaking. I have applied Toa Payoh, no chance. Bt Panjang no chance. Sengkang no chance. Last.. Punggol… no chance… do not know when will be my turn. Wait till I reach 40s? Heaven, God… im in my 30s liao………

After much discussion my fiancee and I decided to get a resale flat nearer to her home liao. Thinking of having to wait until 2013 is a pain (if wanna stay together before that, we need to think about rental somemore)… and the units that we shortlisted and wanted are taken up liao
I think I shd go buy too. Then maybe next we can be neighbours in Sentosa Cove!

They said it will be ready in 2013 but most probably it will be early. I can wait if i can get a flat though.
Meanwhile im still searching for a new flat though…..
Sentosa Cove? not my cup of tea.. i prefer Oxley lehz… but still consider sentosa cove.

Arcadia seems very preimum……..better than Regalia. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm i think i prefer Punggol as next time will be the next “in” project…….
